Hi there!
My name is Jackson. I’m 28, which means I’ve been a music lover for about 28 years. What started with simply singing at home and in church as a child, turned into me learning trumpet in the 6th grade, and then finally me asking my dad to teach me a few chords on his old classical guitar.
After those first few chords, I went on to teach myself jazz guitar and later studied classical and fingerstyle guitar while getting my BA in music at Harding University. Since that time, I’ve played in a variety of ensembles including pit orchestras for musicals, indie rock and americana bands, and as an accompanist for choirs and vocal soloists. I also perform regularly, often playing and singing a mix of jazz standards, folk, and americana.
I started teaching guitar in college, and have continued to teach professionally for seven years. In that time, I’ve learned above all else to prioritize my students, and their wants and needs as people as well as musicians. Musicianship, music theory, technique, and musical vocabulary are all important to becoming a well rounded musician. Helping people become well rounded musicians while still accommodating their individual musical wants and goals are what I strive toward as a teacher. After all, making music is fun! And all musicians are different.
